Historically Informed Amateur Orchestra

What?

From 8 to 13 February 2027, Il Gardellino Orchestra is organising its very first orchestral academy, specifically for amateur musicians. In addition to orchestral rehearsals led by Marcel Ponseele, you will receive coaching in separate sessions from musicians of the orchestra. The academy concludes with a concert at AMUZ. The programme includes orchestral music by Telemann, Bach, Handel, and others. The academy is aimed at amateurs of all ages with an interest in historically informed performance practice. Experience in this field is a plus, but not required. A solid command of your instrument is expected.

Admission requirements

Open to all ages

You have a sufficiently high playing level on your (modern) instrument

You submit an audio or video recording of approx. 2 minutes in which you perform a baroque work of your choice. After a positive evaluation by the coaches, you will be admitted to the academy.

Instrument requirements

Strings: Use of gut strings and a baroque bow is mandatory.

Winds: An authentic baroque instrument tuned to 415 Hz is required.

We can help you find a suitable instrument if you do not have one.

Application deadline: 1 November 2026 (the academy may close early if the maximum number of participants is reached)
